SALT LAKE CITY — Mitt Romney gathered enough signatures from registered Republicans to qualify for the Senate race primary ballot.

Over 28,000 Utahns signed in order to snag Romney a spot, according to state elections director Justin Lee. Romney gathered more signatures than the required amount, but the elections office stopped verifying and counting after 28,000, Lee said.

Romney will face either a primary election or be the Republican Party's nominee, depending on the outcome of the Utah Republican Party state convention next week.
