The film "Beverly Hills Chihuahua" gave inspiration to our local humane society for its latest event to get people to adopt rather than shop. The film's star, Papi the dog, nearly lost his life before he was rescued and launched into Hollywood fame.
Today, the Humane Society of Utah (HSU) at 4242 S. 300 West, used his story to introduce the public to the Chihuahuas it has rescued.
"The point we want to make," says HSU Executive Director Gene Baierschmidt, "is that people who see a movie like "Beverly Hills Chihuahua" and decide that they've just got to have a dog like that for themselves don't need to go to a pet store or a breeder to get one."
Dozens of Chihuahuas are available at the shelter. The adoption center is open Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. For more information, you can call the shelter at 801-261-2919.
