DRAPER — A man died after an industrial accident in Draper on Wednesday afternoon, officials confirmed.

The accident took place at about 1:05 p.m. at the Geneva Rock facility at 15547 S. Minuteman Dr., Draper Police Sgt. Chad Carpenter said.

Carpenter later identified the man who died as Lee Mackay, 57.

Mackay, a Geneva Rock employee, was trying to install a large piece of equipment known as a chute, according to Carpenter. The chute became lodged, and as Mackay tried to dislodge it, it became free and struck him in the head, Carpenter said.

Mackay was declared dead at the scene. There were no other injuries in the accident, Carpenter said.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration would be investigating the accident, along with the Draper Police Department, Carpenter said.

Geneva Rock spokesman Dave Kallas said the company was participating with the investigation and cooperating with Draper police.

"We’re saddened to hear today that one of our employees was injured and ultimately passed away in an accident on our facility," he said.
