PAROWAN — Two adults and three juveniles were taken into custody after a chase on I-15 that reached speeds of up to 115 miles per hour, officials said.

The chase started on I-15 near Parowan, Utah Highway Patrol officials said on the agency’s website.

A Beaver County Sheriff’s deputy pulled over a southbound 2006 Black Subaru for a traffic violation. As the deputy conducted the traffic stop, a man in the car switched places with the driver and then drove off, officials said.

Several law enforcement officers went farther south on the highway to set up tire spikes.

Another officer located the car driving south on the highway at 115 miles per hour, officials said. The car also was passing semi trucks on the right side of the highway.

The driver ran over the tire spikes that were set up about six miles south of Parowan and the two tires on the right side started to deflate, but he continued driving. He ran over spikes again about nine miles farther south and the right-side tires lost their rubber, but the driver continued on.

He ran over tire spikes a third time and the other two tires deflated, but he continued driving.

The driver made it all the way to mile marker 19, about ten miles north of St. George, before law enforcement officers were able to conduct a pursuit intervention maneuver and stop the driver.

The 33-year-old driver of the car, Jerry L. White, was arrested after the chase, officials said. None of the other people who were taken into custody were identified.

White told law enforcement officers that he was trying to get away because he had active warrants in Colorado, UHP officials said.
