FARMINGTON — An elderly man and a passenger in a second vehicle injured in a head-on crash Wednesday afternoon died from their injuries, Utah Highway Patrol troopers said Thursday.
Donald Egginton, 91, and Epenesa Aetonu, 36, of Tafuna, American Samoa, both died at a hospital, according to Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Todd Royce. A third person injured in the crash was expected to survive.
Emergency crews responded to a report of a crash on the Legacy Parkway near the Glovers Lane intersection about 1:15 p.m. Wednesday.
Royce said Egginton was driving a Volvo in the wrong direction in the northbound lanes before it struck a white Chrysler occupied by two people. Aetonu was a passenger in the second vehicle.
All three injured in the crash were wearing seat belts, Royce said. The cause of the crash, including why Egginton was driving in the wrong direction, remains under investigation.
The crash temporarily closed northbound Legacy Parkway at the Parrish Lane intersection for about two hours. The second lane was reopened later in the evening.
