HEBER CITY — Authorities say a Wasatch High School student is in custody related to another reported threat of gun violence on social media.
Heber City Police Sgt. Brandon Shopay said late Wednesday the student had been arrested but provided no details.
The report comes a week after Shopay's agency said a Wasatch High School student alerted authorities that a classmate made a similar threat, also on social media. Police took that student into custody without incident, they said on Feb. 22.
An email to parents in Wasatch County School District Wednesday night said administrators learned of the report earlier in the day. The email said officers reported the student "didn't understand the consequences of this type of post."
The district has urged students and others to report anything they believe could lead to violence and said more officers would be stationed at each school "indefinitely."
"Parents, please take some time to discuss with your children the seriousness of posting any type of threat or anything that could be perceived as a threat on social media," the note to families said.
The alleged threat follows the Feb. 14 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, where 17 people died after a former student opened fire in the middle of the school day.
Several other alleged school threats are being investigated across Utah.
