FARMINGTON — A man already facing federal bank robbery charges now faces new state charges for allegedly stabbing a fellow inmate in the Davis County Jail.
Both the accused attacker and the alleged victim have long criminal histories and have been mentioned in previous news articles.
David Matthew Hamson, 39, of Farmington, was charged Wednesday in 2nd District Court with aggravated assault by a prisoner, a first-degree felony.
On Feb. 9, Hamson, who was being held in the Davis County Jail as a federal inmate, walked up to inmate Delbert Wayne "Auggie", who was on the phone, and stabbed him seven to eight times, according to charging documents.
"Corrections officers immediately entered the pod and observed (Hamson) toss away a large metal handmade shank. Auger was taken to medical and found to have a collapsed lung," the charges state. "Both men are listed as members of different white supremacist gangs."
Investigators learned that the two men had a fistfight the day before, according to court records.
Hamson was arrested Jan. 18 when he allegedly robbed America First Credit Union, 2715 W. 5400 South, but forgot the keys to his getaway vehicle in the bank after he ran off, according to police. He was charged federally with bank robbery.

Things didn't go exactly as planned for an alleged bank robber in Taylorsville.In 2015, Hamson was arrested in connection with a string of four bank robberies.
Auger, 32, also has a lengthy criminal history. In June of 2016, he was arrested for allegedly firing a dozen rounds at a hotel clerk at the Ramada Inn, 12605 S. Minuteman Drive.
That incident came just four months after he was arrested in White City by the Salt Lake Metro Gang Unit, which listed him at the time as one of its top 10 most wanted fugitives.
Auger's lengthy criminal history includes both state and federal convictions. He was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for a firearms conviction in 2012.
