SALT LAKE CITY — A man is in critical condition after being hit by a car at 135 West 1300 South, police said.
A man was crossing from the north side of 1300 South to the south side of the street at about 7:45 p.m., Salt Lake police Lt. Justin Hudson said.
The man was crossing in the middle of a block and was not in a crosswalk, Hudson said.
He ended up unconscious on the ground, Hudson said. He was later transported to a hospital in critical condition, and his condition had not improved as of 9:30 p.m., Hudson said.
The driver tried to avoid hitting the man, but struck him anyway, Hudson said. The driver remained at the scene of the crash and called police immediately. The driver also tried to medically aid the man, Hudson said.
- The road reopened by Thursday morning
- The man who was hit by the SUV, and another man with him who was not hit, were intoxicated, according to Salt Lake Police Lt. Dave Cracroft
Police had closed down 1300 South between 300 West and West Temple to investigate the crash. The road was still closed as of 9:30 p.m. Wednesday and could remain closed for 4-6 hours, Hudson said.
Hudson did not identify the driver or the man who was hit.
