SALT LAKE CITY — Looking for somewhere you can find more than a dozen restaurants serving a variety of foods all under one roof?
Salt Lake City soon will have what you seek.
The 48,000-square foot Food Alley is scheduled to open in early 2019 at the corner of State Street and 800 South, according to an emailed statement from Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski’s office on Wednesday.
Sapa Investment Group is developing Food Alley, which will have space for 17 restaurants.
“Not only is there a need, but a want for a place like Food Alley,” Mai Nguyen, CEO of Sapa Investment Group, said in the statement. “People need diverse places to eat, a community where they can gather and interact, and Food Alley will be an ideal destination to gather, socialize and enjoy food and arts that people in Utah may not have access to elsewhere.”
Several restaurants are already committed to spaces in the development, including an Italian restaurant, sushi bar, ramen shop and a beer bar.
It also will have “pop-up” space for chefs who are traveling through Utah and want to showcase their work for a limited time. Also included will be 21 artist loft apartments on the second level of Food Alley.
Food Alley is a $10 million investment that officials say could bring 700 jobs to Salt Lake City, the statement said.
"Food Alley will serve the youthful, diverse population that’s booming in the Capital City," Nguyen said. "It is just two blocks from City Hall and it’s evident that downtown is spreading farther south."
