OGDEN — An Ogden man is potentially facing a long list of charges after police say he kidnapped a man, accidentally let him go and then led officers on a chase before they arrested him Friday night.

Emanuel Carranza, 30, got into an argument with a 22-year-old man and allegedly took him hostage for “several days,” according to Ogden Police Lt. Chad Ledford.

As of Saturday, it remains unclear what the argument was about but Carranza and the hostage did not appear to know each other, Ledford said.

“The suspect approached the victim at gunpoint then forced him into a vehicle and then they took him back to a residence in Ogden,” Ledford added.

Investigation details revealed the hostage started to win his captor’s trust and told Carranza, a wanted felon, he would buy him ammunition at a Walmart in Ogden, according to investigators. Carranza allowed him to do so, but the hostage called police from the store instead.

Carranza then fled the store and led police on a 20-minute chase through Weber and Davis counties.

“This was a pretty aggressive police chase,” Ledford said. “This was a suspect we had been looking for for quite a while. He is a parole fugitive. We had intelligence that he was armed and dangerous.”

Carranza was booked into the Weber County Jail Friday on investigation of violating probation or parole, failing to stop for police and aggravated assault.

Investigators are still investigating and gathering information about the kidnapping. Ledford said after they have all the details, officials expect additional charges against Carranza.
