Funeral for Jon Huntsman Sr. to be held Feb. 10

SALT LAKE CITY — Funeral services for Jon M. Huntsman Sr. will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Huntsman Center at the University of Utah, according to Huntsman Cancer Institute spokeswoman Debby Rogers.

A public viewing will be held on Friday, Feb. 9, from 5 - 8 p.m. at Monument Park Stake Center located at 1320 South Wasatch Drive, Salt Lake City, according to the Huntsman Cancer Institute.

The Utah businessman and philanthropist died Friday in Salt Lake City at age 80.

Born in Blackfoot, Idaho to a poor family, Huntsman Sr. left his mark on the business world with the global company Huntsman Corporation. Through that company, he was involved with the invention of the first plastic foam egg carton.

Huntsman Sr. also founded Huntsman Container Corporation, which was made famous by creating the McDonald's clamshell containers.

His real-time net worth was $1.21 billion, according to Forbes.

Huntsman Sr. also was known for his philanthropy. He and his family members gave away more than $1.4 billion to various charities during his lifetime.

He founded the Huntsman Cancer Institute with the goal was to completely eradicate the disease.

Huntsman Sr. and his wife Karen had nine children.
