Police searching for couple in humane society theft investigation

MURRAY — Police are searching for two people after $140 was found missing from a donation box at the Humane Society of Utah on Wednesday.

A staff member noticed the money was missing from the box at about 6:20 p.m., according to an emailed statement from Humane Society spokesman Deann Shepherd.

Security video showed two people, a woman and a man, approaching a fundraising table in the lobby of the Humane Society at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

In the video, the man stands near the table for several minutes before reaching into a plexiglass donation box and putting something into his bag, Shepherd said.

“It’s disappointing to see donations that have been generously given by the public to help the animals in need at our facility be taken from them,” Shepherd said in the statement. “We hope that someone may have information to help the police apprehend this man and bring him to justice.”

Murray police described the man as white and 5 feet 8 inches tall, wearing a blue and black jacket and a DC hat. Police described the woman as white with long blond hair, wearing a purple hoodie.
