MURRAY — A man accused of shooting another man in the face was arrested for investigation of attempted manslaughter.

Whether the victim was shot intentionally or by accident appeared to still be in question Wednesday, according to a Salt Lake County Jail report.

On Monday, Murray police were called to an apartment at 154 W. 4350 South on a report of a man who had been shot in the face. He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

Not long after, Tyler James Dalton, 18, was found by Utah Transit Authority police stepping off a TRAX train in the south end of the valley and was arrested. He was booked into jail for investigation of attempted manslaughter, reckless endangerment and drug possession.

Dalton told police that "he was playing with a firearm and upon attempting to set the firearm down, the firearm discharged," the report states.

Other witnesses who were present, however, told detectives that Dalton stated, ā€œI’m going to shoot you" just before the gun fired, according to the report.

No criminal charges have been filed against Dalton as of Wednesday.

Dalton, who turned 18 just a week earlier, has no prior adult criminal history.
