LONDON (AP) — Manchester United's Ashley Young and Swansea's Kyle Naughton were both banned for three matches Sunday following incidents of violent conduct during Premier League games.

Young elbowed Dusan Tadic in the chest during United's 0-0 draw against Southampton at Old Trafford. He accepted a charge from the English Football Association but argued that a ban of three games would be excessive.

His appeal was rejected by a disciplinary commission.

Also on Saturday, Naughton trod on the leg of Watford's Stefano Okaka in Swansea's 2-1 win at Vicarage Road. He didn't appeal against the charge.

Neither incident was spotted by match officials.

Usually a winger, Young has been playing at full back for United this season and his absence leaves United short of defensive cover for upcoming games against Everton and Stoke in the league and Derby in the FA Cup.
