PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Melvin Frazier scored 25 points with seven assists, Cameron Reynolds added 17 points with 10 rebounds, and Tulane pulled ahead early and held on to beat Temple 85-75 in an American Conference opener on Thursday night.

Blake Paul scored 12 points and Ray Ona Embo added 11 for the Green Wave (10-3), which shot 54 percent from the floor (31 of 57) to Temple's 45 percent (30 of 67) and made 19 free throws to their 11.

Shizz Alston Jr.'s 3 capped a 9-2 run and Temple closed to 45-40 with 15:56 to play, then to 56-52 on Quinton Rose's 3 with 11:06 left. Frazier hit a 3 amid an 11-4 run for a 71-62 Tulane lead and the Green Wave scored 11 unanswered points in the final 56 seconds.

Paul's free throw tied it at 2 and sparked a 7-0 run and the Green Wave led 38-29 at halftime.

Alston and Rose scored 17 apiece for the Owls (7-5), Josh Brown added 14 and Nate Pierre-Louis a career-high 11 with three steals.
