SALT LAKE CITY — After missing out on the postseason in 2016, the Utah State football team will return to a bowl game Dec. 29 in the Arizona Bowl against New Mexico State.
The bowl eligibility gave the Aggies (6-6) a much-needed shot of confidence — and an extra month of practice time for head coach Matt Wells and his young staff.
“It’s kind of like a mini-spring ball,” Wells told KSL Sports. “That’s one of the rewards for a program of going to a bowl game — you get a lot more practices. We try to focus on the youth and development of our younger guys, as well as the guys playing on Saturdays.
“You are trying to build up 7-8 practices, in addition to next spring.”
