UT Rio Grande beats Texas A&M CC in South Texas Showdown

EDINBURG, Texas (AP) — Nick Dixon scored 24 points to help UT Rio Grande beat Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 82-78 on Wednesday night in the South Texas Showdown.

Dixon's 3-pointer with 3:36 to go gave UTRGV a 76-74 lead and Moe McDonald made it a four-point lead on their next possession. Dixon scored again at 1:25, McDonald made two free throws with three seconds left and Texas A&M CC's Emmanuel Toney was off on a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Lesley Varner Jr. added 14 points for UTRGV (5-6). McDonald had 11 and Mike Hoffman 10. The Vaqueros were 9 of 21 from 3-point range and hit 13 of 15 free throws.

Joseph Kilgore led Texas A&M-CC (2-6) with 25 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Toney added a career-high 15 points, making three of the Islanders' five 3-pointers.

The Islanders were coming off their largest victory in a decade, routing Texas Lutheran 80-42.
