SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) — Max Heidegger scored 25 points, Leland King II added 22 points and 13 rebounds and UC Santa Barbara won its sixth straight with a 77-70 victory over Omaha on Tuesday night.
The Gauchos (7-2) are off to their best start since they opened the 2007-08 season 10-1. They started last season 1-7.
Jalen Canty added a season-high 14 points and 11 rebounds for UC Santa Barbara. Marcus Jackson had a career-best 11 assists.
Zach Jackson scored 17 points to lead Omaha (1-9). JT Gibson had 14 points and Mitchell Hahn added 13 points and a career-high 13 rebounds.
The game was tied 45-45 with 12 minutes to play. The Gauchos used a 22-7 run for a 67-52 lead with 5:23 remaining. Heidegger made two 3-pointers and scored 10 points during the stretch. The Mavericks pulled to 73-66 with 56 seconds left before Heidegger made 4 of 6 free throws to end it.
