SANDY — A woman who was hit by a car on Thursday night near the South Towne Expo Center has died from her injuries, police said.

Stephanie Burton, 46, died Saturday as a result of the crash, according to a press release from Sandy police Lt. Jon Arnold.

The crash took place at about 7:15 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of State Street and 9400 South.

Two other pedestrians, a man and a woman, were also critically injured in the crash. By Saturday, they had been released from the hospital and were recovering from their injuries, Arnold said.

The 17-year-old driver of a Red Mitsubishi had minor injuries, Sandy police Sgt. Dean Carriger said Thursday.

It appeared that the driver, heading west, had failed to stop when he was approaching a flashing crosswalk on 9400 South, Carriger said.

The pedestrians were crossing the road from the north side to the south, and the driver hit all three people. Witnesses told police at the scene that the pedestrians had the right of way at the time of the crash, Carriger said.

The Festival of Trees was taking place nearby at the South Towne Expo Center during the time of the crash.

An investigation into the crash is still ongoing as of Saturday, and no charges had been determined.
