WEST WEBER, Weber County — Police on Wednesday identified a Layton woman who died after the car she was riding in rolled and crashed into trees Tuesday afternoon.

Weber County Sheriff's Sgt. Matt Jensen said Amber Lawrence, 32, was a passenger in a vehicle that rolled near 4400 West and 1150 South. The vehicle was reportedly also involved with a hit-and-run at 1900 West and 12th Street in Marriott-Slaterville that occurred less than five minutes before the crash, Jensen said.

Jensen said the vehicle was believed to be going about 100 mph when the crash occurred. Lawrence was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 33-year-old man driving the vehicle, whose name was not immediately released, was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Jensen said the driver’s condition has since stabilized.

Jensen said Tuesday alcohol may have factored in the crash, in addition to speed. The crash remains under investigation.
