MORGAN — A teen died after the car he was driving slid in slushy conditions and crashed into the back of a semitruck on I-84 Friday morning, authorities said.
Emergency crews responded to a report of a crash on I-84 eastbound near Morgan around 10 a.m., according to Utah Highway Patrol troopers.
Troopers said the semitruck was coming to a stop in the emergency lane when a 2002 Hyundai Sonata driven by a 17-year-old boy lost control and slid sideways into the truck. The teen, who was not immediately identified, was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene.
Authorities said the boy was from Taylor, Utah. The driver of the truck was not injured.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation but winter conditions may have factored in the crash, troopers said.
The crash has closed one lane of I-84 eastbound for several hours, according to Utah Department of Transportation officials. The agency expected the crash to be cleared by 2:30 p.m.
