BEAVER — A Beaver County man who previously was wanted on a warrant for 35 sexual abuse-related felonies turned himself in on Friday afternoon, Beaver County Sheriff Cameron Noel said in a news release.
Destry Mel Stewart, 43, turned himself in at the Beaver County Sheriff’s Office at about 7:30 p.m. Friday and was immediately taken into custody, Noel said.
Noel had called one of Stewart’s family members about two hours before he turned himself in, the sheriff said in the release. The family member said he was with Stewart, and that Stewart wanted to turn himself in.
Stewart had been charged with 39 felonies, including rape, unlawful sexual contact with a minor and other sexual abuse charges, the St. George News reported. He is accused of sexually abusing teenage girls, according to court documents.
Stewart failed to show up for a preliminary hearing Monday in 5th District Court in Beaver County, according to a Thursday statement from Noel.
Before that, Stewart had been released from jail after a bail bondsman posted his $160,000 bail.
