SALT LAKE CITY — Former Lt. Gov. Greg Bell was named the new chairman of the Utah Transit Authority board of trustees Wednesday, a position he'll assume next month.

Bell, who stepped down as Gov. Gary Herbert's lieutenant governor in 2013, is the president and CEO of the Utah Hospital Association. He will take over the post from the board's current chairman, Robert McKinley.

Trustees on Wednesday approved Bell's nomination, made by the board's executive committee earlier this month. He joined the 16-member board just over a year ago as the governor's appointee.
