OGDEN — Police believe speed, inexperience and a left-hand turn likely factored in a crash that killed a 17-year-old motorcyclist on Oct. 22 that remains under investigation.

Police responded to a report of a crash at the intersection of 7th Street and Washington Boulevard around 8:30 p.m., Ogden Police Lt. Chad Ledford said.

He said a 2001 Ford F-250 pickup truck made a left-hand turn in front of a motorcycle northbound on Washington Boulevard. The motorcycle was driven by a teen, Omar Marquez, who was taken to a hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Ledford said witnesses told police the motorcycle was traveling at about 70 to 80 mph in a 40 mph zone. He said this, in addition to the inexperience of the driver and the left hand turn also likely factored in the crash. It was unclear if the driver of the pickup truck saw the motorcyclist before turning in front of him.

He said the crash remains under investigation, including going over blood tests to make sure neither driver was intoxicated. Charges remain pending in the case.

Marquez was a senior at Ogden High School, according to an obituary posted online. A funeral mass was held on Monday. A GoFundMe* page was set up in support of his family.
