MURRAY — A Utah woman is recovering from serious injuries after a unidentified man fell more than 15 feet from a balcony Saturday night during a concert at Saltair.
Rebecca Crawforth and a friend were in the VIP section at Get Freaky 2017, dancing on the side of the stage about 1 a.m. when the man fell, crushing her left leg.
"It's kind of hard to remember,” Crawforth said from her hospital bed at Intermountain Medical Center. “Everything happened in a whirlwind."
Crawforth, who until recently worked as a nurse, suffered a severe compound leg fracture, ligament damage to her knee, two broken vertebrae and bruised ribs. People told her the man, who ran off after the fall, was dancing wildly on the balcony.
"I guess he was headbanging really hard and fell forward, and people on the balcony even tried to grab him and hold him, but he slipped through and fell,” Crawforth said.
"I didn't see him,” she said. “I was in so much pain. I was kind of focused on myself. … I just wish some responsibility was taken for the person who did this."
After her stay in the hospital, Crawford will recover at home for several months, putting her career plans on hold.
According to a GoFundMe account created to help pay for her medical bills, Crawforth left her position this summer to finish pursuing her bachelor's in nursing while simultaneously attending school for massage therapy, with plans to return to work as a nurse at the end of this year. She is currently unemployed and without health insurance.
The manager of Saltair said the venue is conducting its own investigation and won’t comment on the matter until that work is complete.
