SOUTH SALT LAKE — Police identified a motorcyclist who died after crashing into an SUV Saturday night.
Taylorsville resident Randy James Hoover, 38, was traveling west on 3300 South shortly before 8:30 p.m. when he struck an SUV that was traveling east and turning left into an apartment complex near 1080 West, according to South Salt Lake Police Sgt. Matthew Oehler.
Hoover was transported to a hospital with critical injuries but died later that night, Oehler said.
The driver of the SUV did not have any serious injures, according to police.
Hoover may have been exceeding the speed limit and was not wearing a helmet, according to Oehler.
"Even though it is legal (in Utah) to not have a helmet on, you're taking your life into your own hands and it's a very dangerous risk to do so, as we've seen here tonight," he said.
The investigation surrounding the crash is still ongoing.
