THE BEST EVER — Every week, we bring you some great moments around sports — at all levels — that you may have missed.
This week, though, we have three nominees for the best clips of the year.
If you disagree, you can take it up with a Riverton High cross-country runner who carried a teammate with a broken leg across the finish line at last week’s state meet; a Texas prep volleyball star whose incredible kill broke the internet; and a Kansas State defensive back whose no-look interception was the talk of Saturday from Manhattan, Kansas, to Norman, Oklahoma.
As always, click the video above for the complete list of great moments.
Moment of the year, from Utah high school cross-country
Sportsmanship still matters, folks.
At last week’s Class 6A boys cross-country state meet at Sugarhouse Park, Riverton’s Blake Lewis broke his leg about 200 meters from the finish line.
His teammate Sean Rausch was near him — but didn’t lap the competitor for a better time.
Instead, Rausch put Lewis on his back and carried him across the finish line so that both runners could finish together.

Both runners were disqualified for the infraction (racers are not allowed contact with other competitors during a race). But that’s not the point — and Rausch won more than a championship last Wednesday.
Highlight of the year, from Texas high school volleyball
Autumn Finney is a senior at Texas’ Decatur High School who has impressed her teammates on the girls volleyball team.
But she outdid herself — and everyone else — with an incredible last-gasp strike that led to a kill in a recent match.
The senior leader raced down what should’ve been a lost point, leaped an incredible distance, dived back and reversed a strike from behind the service line that eventually turned into a point.

Interception of the year, from a K-State DB
Shut it down, defensive backs coaches: college football has seen its best interception in the 2017 season.
Kansas State’s Denzel Goolsby picked off Oklahoma quarterback (and Heisman Trophy contender) Baker Mayfield on Saturday without seeing the ball, all while fighting with wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.
Goolsby faced Lamb and pulled a catch away from the receiver in the back of the end zone for an interception that held up.

The pick led to K-State’s 21-7 lead, but the Sooners (6-1) had the last laugh by rallying for a 42-35 win.
