SALT LAKE CITY — There may be a lot of darkness in the world today, but that means it's also an important time to recognize the small acts of kindness performed by great people each day.
To help us remember the positive in the world, we're highlighting a few stories of kindness performed by strangers to others in the community.
The KSL.com “Make Your Week” column features uplifting stories sent in from people outside the newsroom. Email stories that have made your day better in 100 words or fewer to mdalrymple@ksl.com. Photos and videos are encouraged.
Utah girls celebrate birthdays with charity events
Laurie B.
"My two daughters Sam, 13, and Jo, 10, celebrate their birthdays in a unique way in that instead of parties and gifts, they have held annual charity events for the past eight years. This year's event will be a dance battle to benefit a 5-year-old girl, Penny, recently diagnosed with brain cancer. We have partnered with Millie's Princess Foundation along with many performers such as NuTribe, The Bboy Federation, UDO and others to rally behind Penny and her family. The dance community is an amazing group of people who love to share their talents especially when it comes to helping others. The battle is on Oct. 28, from 12-6 p.m. and will be held in the garage/convention center at Rocky Mountain Raceway."
Stranger returns lost key in Magna
Sherrie M.
"I wanted to share what made my whole morning today and let others know that there are plenty of fine people left with integrity and honesty. Last night I stayed with my 8 ½-year-old granddaughter at my son’s apartment complex in Magna as they were at the hospital with a new baby girl. As I proceeded to load my arms full of bags and items to carry in, I inadvertently dropped the key to my new truck in the parking lot. I didn’t realize this until this morning when I could not find it and figured I locked it in the truck and would use the keypad to get in. The key was found in the outside seal of the driver’s door and not one thing in the vehicle was missing or out of place! Hats off to the kind individual who placed the key where I could find it and to all the other citizens who didn’t take advantage of my carelessness."
