SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Deseret News newspaper in Salt Lake City has a new president and publisher.

The newspaper reports (http://bit.ly/2fG2QsQ ) Chairman of the Deseret News Publishing Co. Board of Directors Keith B. McMullin announced Thursday media executive Jeff Simpson would be taking over the company.

In a release, McMullin says Simpson's appointment builds on the foundation laid by the naming of Deseret News editor and head content officer Doug Wilks in November, and head digital officer Burke Olsen in December.

Simpson, a Deseret News board member and president of Deseret Book, began his career at Walt Disney Pictures and Buena Vista Television. He then built Excel Entertainment Group, which became a successful independent media distributor that was later acquired by Deseret Book. He then served as president and CEO of Bonneville International.
