NORTH SALT LAKE (AP) -- North Salt Lake has chosen a former city councilwoman to be the new mayor.
Officials have picked Shanna Schaefermeyer. She'll replace Kay Briggs as mayor when he leaves at the end of the month. He's taking a job in the Dominican Republic.
Schaefermeyer was chosen from a pool of seven candidates. The soon-to-be mayor says she was very surprised.
Schaefermeyer has three children and has lived in North Salt Lake for the last 30 years. She served on the City Council from 1984 to 1992 and has her masters in education from the University of Utah.
She will officially be appointed as mayor on September 12th.
