SPANISH FORK — A Spanish Fork man was arrested Friday for investigation of murder in connection with the death of his wife, who police believe was strangled.

Curtis Ray Nichols, 35, called police dispatchers about 11 p.m. Thursday to report his wife, 35-year-old Robin Nichols, was "not conscious and not breathing" in their home near the intersection of 1050 South and 900 East, said Spanish Fork Police Lt. Brandon Anderson.

"Officers arrived on scene and confirmed (Robin Nichols) was not breathing and immediately began life-savings measures, which included CPR," Anderson said in a statement.

Emergency responders took Robin Nichols to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Records indicate Curtis Nichols was booked into the Utah County Jail shortly after midnight Saturday for investigation of murder and three counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child.

The husband and wife have three children, and police believe they were home at the time of the time of her death, Anderson told KSL. Curtis Nichols reported to police that his wife was not breathing "when he arrived home," Anderson said.

"Nothing was obvious at first" about how Robin Nichols had died, Anderson said, which is why a little more than a full day of investigation was needed before her husband was ultimately booked.

An autopsy performed Saturday by the Utah State Medical Examiner's Office revealed Robin Nichols died from strangulation, according to Anderson.

The husband and wife had lived in Spanish Fork for about two years, and there is no history of police responding to their home, Anderson said.

Curtis Nichols has no prior criminal history in Utah, according to a search of court records.
