Ashley Hayes ReportingA grocery store robbery suspect is in jail this morning, but it took a few dogs and a Taser gun to get him there.

Police say the whole thing happened over maybe one or two hundred dollars at the most.

They say Steven Griffiths walked into the Smiths grocery store on 9th East and Fort Union Boulevard and demanded money.

They say he had a knife, but also lifted up his shirt, threatening to have a gun in his waistband.

He made off with a couple hundred dollars in cash and went running out of the store.

Sgt. Greg Olson, Midvale Police Department: "A couple of the store employees chased him. They saw him running through North Union Avenue, which is behind me, and they lost him in a business complex over there. We set up containment until we got the canine units to track him."

And track him they did. The dogs found Griffiths hiding under a parked truck at Creekside apartments.

Police say Griffiths came out from under the truck, but then assaulted the arresting officer. Officers tasered Griffiths twice to get him cuffed. This morning he is booked in the Salt Lake County Jail.

This isn't the first time Griffiths has been in trouble with police. Midvale police say he has a criminal record and is on probation for another violation.
