SANDY — A motorcyclist was hospitalized after colliding with an SUV Sunday afternoon, officials report.
At about 2 p.m., a motorcyclist was traveling southbound on 700 East in the left lane while an SUV — carrying a 60-year-old male passenger and a 60-year-old female passenger — was traveling the same direction in the right lane, according to Sandy Police Lt. Dean Carriger. As both approached the intersection at 8800 South, the SUV’s driver moved into the left lane and into the path of the motorcyclist.
The motorcyclist quickly braked and crashed into the left side of the SUV, Carriger said.
The motorcyclist — identified only as a 48-year-old Sandy man — was not wearing a helmet and was seriously injured. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition, but was later upgraded to “serious but stable” condition, Carriger said.
It was not immediately known whether the driver and passenger of the SUV were injured in the collision.
The crash remains under investigating as officials work to determine the exact cause.
