PROVO — While Provo mayoral candidate Michelle Kaufusi holds a strong lead in the latest municipal primary results released Friday, there is still a close race for the second-place candidate who will also be on the November ballot.

Kaufusi held 30 percent of the vote in the Provo race. Following behind, Odell Miner had 21.4 percent, only 156 votes ahead of Sherrie Hall Everett, who had 19.8 percent of the vote.

Utah County Clerk/Auditor Brian Thompson said the county would continue a methodical count of the votes, with another set of election results to be released Tuesday.

The top two candidates will vie for the seat being vacated by Mayor John Curtis, who on Tuesday night secured his own victory to become the Republican candidate in November's election to replace former Rep. Jason Chaffetz in Utah's 3rd Congressional District.

Elsewhere along the Wasatch Front, election officials in Salt Lake, Davis and Weber counties continued to update vote totals for dozens of municipal primary races that closed on Tuesday.

For each municipal primary, the candidates jockeyed for the top two spots to advance to the Nov. 7 general election.

Salt Lake County

In Draper, Councilwoman Michelle Weeks maintained a nearly eight point lead over incumbent Mayor Troy Walker, taking 45.3 percent of the votes to Walker's 37.4 percent.

Walker held his second-place position with a comfortable lead over challenger Troy Martinez, who had 17.3 percent of the vote.

In Sandy, six-term Mayor Tom Dolan had 48.3 percent of the reported vote, leading challenger Kurt Bradburn, who had 40 percent.

By Friday, transgender candidate Sophia Hawes-Tingey had closed to within five points of Robert Hale, who led the Midvale mayoral race with 29.6 percent of the vote.

Taylorsville Mayor Larry Johnson was down more than 14 points, with 40.8 percent of the vote, to Kristie Steadman Overson, who led with 54.4 percent.

In Murray, former four-term mayor Dan Snarr leads the race with 41.1 percent of the vote to City Councilman Blair Camp's 33.5 percent.

Draper City Councilman William Rappleye had 19.6 percent of the vote to challenger Tasha Lowery's 26 percent. Mike Green followed with 16.3 percent and Dan Wheatley had 16 percent.

In West Valley City, Samoan-American Jake Fitisimanu Jr. was the favorite to become the next city councilman, holding 40.5 percent of the vote. Challenger Lynn Sanderson held 31.7 percent of the vote, apparently securing second place in the race against Councilman Steven Vincent, who had 27.7 percent.

Davis County

In the race for Bountiful mayor, Friday's reports had Dean Collinwood with 26.2 percent of the vote, taking a slight lead over incumbent Mayor Randy Lewis, who had 25.6 percent.

Weber County

In Roy, Robert Dandoy had a 17-point lead in the mayoral race as results showed him with 52.4 percent of the vote, followed by incumbent Mayor Willard Cragun at 35.2 percent.
