BERLIN (AP) — German authorities say a 32-year-old woman gave birth on a commuter train heading to Berlin from a town in Brandenburg state.

Police told the dpa news agency Friday that a police officer on his way to work heard a scream from another car on the train. Discovering the woman in labor, he quickly enlisted two other passengers to help and she successfully gave birth to a baby girl.

Together with an older sibling, the mother and newborn were taken safely to a hospital for further observation.

Police say they'd been on an hour-long journey Friday morning from Rathenow to Berlin.
