(KSL News) Six of Utah's hospitals share a very distinguished rank in saving lives. They are among the top 15 percent of the nation's hospitals that have raised organ donation rates.

McKay-Dee Hospital, University of Utah Medical Center, Primary Children's Medical Center, LDS Hospital, Intermountain Medical Center and Utah Valley Regional Medical Center all surpassed a donation rate of 75 percent from eligible donors.

Each hospital was presented with the Health and Human Services Medal of Honor in the State Capitol Rotunda today.

The awards came as no surprise to Damon Draheim, the 1,000th heart transplant recipient in Utah.

"The people at these hospitals are just incredible. And it doesn't surprise me because I've seen the way they work, the way they treat not only the tranplant patients, but also the families of organ donors. They care so much," Draheim said.

Each of these facilities will be honored nationally later this month.
