PARK CITY, Utah (AP) -- The founder of Utah's Deer Valley Resort has died. He was 86.
The resort says in a statement that Edgar B. Stern Jr. died Sunday in Seattle.
Stern was a native of New York and longtime resident of New Orleans. He graduated from Harvard University and served in the Army in World War II.
Deer Valley President and General Manager Bob Wheaton says Stern was a visionary and pioneer with passion, determination and a commitment to excellence.
Stern developed other properties besides Deer Valley, which opened in 1981. They included the Stanford Court hotel in San Francisco, the Royal Orleans hotel in New Orleans and Aspen's Starwood Ranch residential subdivision in Colorado.
Stern is survived by his wife of 61 years, Pauline, a daughter, three sons and seven grandchildren.
