SALT LAKE CITY — A person of interest in a deadly hit-and-run crash that killed one person and injured five others was in custody Wednesday.

Corrections officers found Shutney Lee Kyzer, 37, and she returned to prison for a violation of her probation related to a prior conviction, Salt Lake City police announced in a Wednesday evening tweet.

Detectives with the department earlier said Kyzer, whose last known address is in Draper, was a person of interest in the deadly downtown crash on Tuesday.

Police Wednesday were continuing to investigate whether she was involved in the fatal crash at 6 p.m. Tuesday when a tan Mazda veered onto a sidewalk and hit a group of people at 465 W. 200 South. One woman, 27-year-old Kendra Griffis, was killed, the Salt Lake Police Department said.

Another person was taken to a local hospital in critical condition but had stabilized by Wednesday, according to police. Four others were treated for minor injuries and released, police said.

Witnesses said it appeared the car intentionally drove into the group, but Salt Lake police said whether the driver purposely hit the group has not been determined.

After the crash, a passenger from the vehicle stayed behind and talked to investigators, but the driver ran off, police said.

Police said charges stemming from the crash will be screened when the investigation has concluded.

In 2009, Kyzer was sentenced to one to 15 years at the Utah State Prison for burglary and kidnapping, according to court records. In 2014, she was convicted of possessing methamphetamine and Spice, court records state. Last year, Kyzer was convicted of assault for punching a fellow inmate.
