It's time to get a pumpkin for Halloween, but what should you look for in a potential jack-o'-lantern?

To find the perfect pumpkin, I took a stroll through Janet Mabey's four-acre pumpkin patch in South Jordan.

"Actually all our pumpkins are planted by hand," she said.

She grows 22 varieties of pumpkins, from the bright orange fairytale pumpkins to the white full moon pumpkins. But what's important in picking a good one?

"Pick it up, and if it's gone rotten it will be soft," she explained.

So, make sure they're firm all over. To keep them fresh, she says don't carve until almost Halloween, keep them out of direct sunlight and your pumpkin should be good to go Halloween night.
