Gene Kennedy ReportingA wildfire in northern Utah that flared up this morning is now 75 percent contained. Residents who were out of their homes due to the fire were allowed to return this afternoon.
The fire is burning near the town of Perry. It began yesterday evening when lightning struck a hillside between Perry and Brigham City.
At a press conference this morning, fire officials said the flames have burned about 350 acres. No homes were damaged. Crews expect to fully contain the fire by 6:00 tonight.
The flames forced people to evacuate from four houses last night.
Merv Tanner, Evacuated Resident: "It was really coming right at us, right at us, right toward the lower house."
The families that were evacuated found themselves scrambling to get out, while grabbing precious belongings.
LaVern Tanner, Evacuated Resident: "Pictures of our family, and things that you cannot replace. (reporter question: "Were you afraid you would lose the house?") "Yes, especially when it started coming up from the bottom."
Crews will need to put out hot spots on this fire and restore power.
Yesterday the roads leading to Sardine Canyon, and Highway 89 were closed due to the fire, but both are open this morning.
