OGDEN — A woman who was critically injured after her vehicle was struck by a dump truck Wednesday morning is expected to survive, police said.

The 18-year-old woman was driving east on 2550 South in an SUV and was turning onto 4700 West when she collided “almost head-on” with the dump truck traveling south, according to Weber County Sheriff's Sgt. Matt Jensen.

The woman was extracted from her vehicle and suffered a broken femur, other broken bones and internal bleeding. She was flown to a local hospital in “extremely critical condition” but is expected to survive, Jensen said.

Jensen said the woman was heading to Fremont High School, 1900 N. 4700 West, where she is a student.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

Police said the woman pulled out in front of the truck but are unsure why. The crash remains under investigation.

More information will be added as soon as it is made available.
