NEW YORK (AP) — It's winter's last hurrah. A blizzard is expected to sweep parts of the Northeast today and Tuesday, leaving up to 18 inches of snow in some areas. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo says the New York State Emergency Operations Center will be activated this evening, with stockpiles of sandbags, generators and pumps. Snow is also expected to hit Philadelphia, Boston and Washington, D.C. Just a week ago, temperatures in the region had climbed into the 60s.
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump last week accused the Obama administration of wiretapping phones at Trump Tower during the presidential campaign. Now Republican Sen. John McCain is telling the Trump administration to either provide evidence of wiretapping by today or issue a retraction. A request for evidence was also made in a letter sent to the Justice Department by House committee chairman Devin Nunes, a Republican from California.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Congressional Budget Office could release as soon as today an analysis expected to conclude that fewer Americans will have health coverage under the Republican plan to dismantle "Obamacare." House Speaker Paul Ryan says he fully expects the CBO analysis to find less coverage since the GOP plan eliminates the government requirement to be insured. But Ryan and Trump administration officials are vowing to move forward with their "repeal and replace" plan.
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A trial opens this week in Louisiana for one of two deputies charged with second-degree murder in the death of a 6-year-old autistic boy. Video from a police officer's body camera captured the burst of gunfire and gruesome aftermath of the shooting that killed Jeremy Mardis and critically wounded his father during a November 2015 traffic stop. The footage also shows the father with his hands raised inside his car as the deputy city marshals opened fire.
MEXICO CITY (AP) — Sports fans in Mexico spent a weekend in mourning without soccer after referees refused to officiate at games. They were protesting the Mexican league's decision not to impose tougher punishments on two players who shoved officials. The sports newspaper Record published a banner headline Sunday reading "We are going to miss you!" It carried the subtitle: "A sad weekend without the MX League."
