SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah's House of Representatives has passed a bill that could allow restaurants to stop shielding diners from seeing alcoholic drinks as they're prepared. House lawmakers voted 58-10 late Friday afternoon to approve the measure, sending it to the Senate for consideration.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The head of Utah democrats worries that the acquittal of a former Utah attorney general on bribery charges will embolden other Republican leaders in the mostly-GOP state to believe they are above the law. Utah Democratic Party Chairman Peter Corroon said Friday that the jury's acquittal Thursday night of John Swallow doesn't mean that he and his predecessor Mark Shurtleff didn't commit ethical violations.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Portions of five northern Utah counties are being warned about the possibility of weekend flooding, amid forecasts of rising temperatures melting heavy snow. The Salt Lake Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/2mlYtrq) that Cache, Rich and the northeastern sections of Weber, Box Elder and Morgan counties were under a flood warning beginning Friday. The advisory runs until Monday afternoon.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah's unemployment rate remained unchanged at 3.1 percent in January for the third month in a row. The Department of Workforce Services released employment figures for January. The data show about 47,800 residents were jobless that month but looking for work. Utah's unemployment rate hasn't changed since November, but the nationwide rate increased slightly to 4.8 percent from 4.6 percent. State economist Carrie Mayne says Utah is beginning the year on strong economic footing.
