(KSL News) A-- West Valley Police officer had to taser a man last night.

The officer was driving down 41st South when he noticed a man riding on the hood of a car. The man was yelling and pounding on the top of the vehicle.

The man broke the windshield, and it appeared he wanted to fight with the driver.

When the vehicle stopped, the man approached the officer.

Sgt. John Pierce/ West Valley City Police Dept.: "The officer didn't know what he had. The subject was acting out of control, so he was concerned for his safety and called for assistance and had to deploy the taser."

The man appeared to be under the influence of drugs. He was taken into custody.

He faces charges of assault, vandalism and lewdness.
