(KSL News) It appears the new Legacy Parkway has made quite the first impression.
According to the Utah Department of Transportation, the Legacy highway helped reduce traffic on I-15 and significantly reducing travel time, especially during the northbound evening commute into Davis County.
UDOT's preliminary numbers from the first commute on Legacy show the parkway reduced I-15 traffic by 26 percent. Of the 130,306 total vehicles Monday, 34,187 of them traveled on Legacy. 96,119 remained on I-15, a 22 percent decrease from the previous Monday (Sept. 8), which saw 123,167 vehicles.
Travel time also saw a significant drop. On Monday, Sept. 8, the evening northbound commute on I-15 from downtown Salt Lake City to Farmington took 42 minutes. Monday, Sept. 15 the same commute on I-15 took 16 minutes. That is a difference of 26 minutes.
The morning southbound commute on I-15 saw a drop of only one minute, from 18 minutes to 17.
Both northbound and southbound commutes on Legacy took 13 minutes.
