MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — The top bowl game of the day is being played this evening in Miami Gardens, Florida, as sixth-ranked Michigan faces No. 10 Florida State in the Orange Bowl. The Wolverines enter the game 10-2 while the Seminoles are 9-3.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Virginia Tech pulled off the school's biggest comeback ever yesterday in beating Arkansas in the Belk Bowl. The 18th-ranked Hokies trailed the Razorbacks 24-0 at the half before clawing back for a 35-24 victory. Tech scored on five of its first seven possessions of the second half.

PROVO, Utah (AP) — Hall of Fame college football coach LaVell Edwards passed away yesterday at the age of 86. In 29 years as head coach at BYU he took the Cougars to 22 bowl games and a national championship. His record was an impressive 257-101-3.

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — The red-hot Columbus Blue Jackets have won their last 14 games. Last night the Jackets got two goals from Alexander Wennberg in a 5-3 win over the Jets in Winnipeg. The winning streak is the third-longest in NHL history.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — The Sharks are hosting the Flyers tonight and for Philadelphia that is not good news. San Jose has dominated Philadelphia of late, winning the last five games they've played and 14 of their last 15 meetings. The Flyers come into the game having lost four of their last five games overall.
