SOCHI, Russia (AP) — More than 3,000 Russian rescue workers on 32 ships are searching the section of the Black Sea where a Russia military plane carrying 92 people went down. The plane left Sochi, headed for Syria. And it was carrying dozens of singers in Russia's world-famous military choir. Russia's Transport minister says either pilot error or a technical problem caused the crash.
MEXICO CITY (AP) — It was a violent Christmas Day in Western Mexico. In Michoacan state, authorities discovered six decapitated heads near the state of Jalisco in a region that has been a battleground between competing drug gangs in recent years. In the neighboring state of Guerrero, gunmen entered a house and shot to death seven people. A state security spokesman says three of those killed were police officers.
CHICAGO (AP) — Snow, freezing rain, ice and howling winds have been pounding the northern Plains and some Western states. And some areas could get up to 15 inches of snow through Monday. In Bismarck, North Dakota, the police chief has issued a no travel advisory, as stranded vehicles blocked roadways and intersections. The North Dakota Transportation Department has closed most of a 240-mile stretch of Interstate 94 Sunday night. Portions of U.S. Highways 2, 52 and 281 are also shut down.
LONDON (AP) — The music world is mourning the death of pop star George Michael. Michael died Sunday from heart failure at age 53. Elton John says, "I have lost a beloved friend — the kindest, most generous soul and a brilliant artist. My heart goes out to his family and all of his fans." Liza Minnelli says, "In a world that needs music more than ever, today it is less so."
NEW YORK (AP) — Authorities in New York say rapper Troy Ave was been shot while sitting in his car at an intersection in Brooklyn. The rapper's attorney says he was on his way to visit family Sunday evening when he was shot twice. Troy Ave, whose real name is Roland Collins, is in fair condition in a hospital. The 31-year-old faces charges in connection with a fatal shooting inside a popular Manhattan concert venue. Collins was also shot during that incident.
