SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The ratio of men to women attending the University of Utah medical school is almost 2-1 and one of the most uneven in the country.
According to the Association of American Medical Colleges, 49 percent of medical students nationwide are women. The total at the University of Utah is 37 percent.
University officials say discrepancy isn't caused by any sort of bias. The admissions criteria are the same for women and men who apply.
Last year, 30 percent of the applicants to Utah's medical school were women. That's nearly 20 percent fewer than the national average.
