GRU'S PLACE — When “Despicable Me” came out in 2010, it was a pleasant surprise and we couldn’t help but laugh at the minions. Then three years later, we got “Despicable Me 2” and it was still a lot of fun and we were still chuckling at the minions. Then 2015 came, we got “Minions,” and I wanted to punch anything that was yellow.

Now we have “Despicable Me 3,” and I hope the trailer is an indication that we’re going to get more Gru and less minion, but we’ll see. Regardless, the first trailer for the third installment of the Despicable Me franchise is now online and gives us a look at Gru as the hero and the new villain Balthazar Bratt. Quirky side note, the villain from “Despicable Me 2” was Benjamin Bratt and the villain in the new film is Balthazar Bratt. Coincidence?

Anyway, the trailer delivers on the funny, as well as the quirk, as we’ve come to expect from these movies. Steve Carell and Kristen Wiig are back, which is nice, and veteran voice actor and “South Park” co-creator Trey Parker voices the villain Balthazar.

Screenwriters Ken Daurio and Cinco Paul know how to deliver the funny with these films and it looks like they’ll likely deliver once again— just tone down the minions, please. Sorry, that’s just me, but personally I’ve hit minion capacity.

The trailer doesn’t show Gru’s girls at all, but I’d have to assume they are in the film as well and we’ll likely get a peek at them in later trailers.

“Despicable Me 3” isn’t hitting theaters until June 30, 2017, so we have some time before the minion take over of the world.
