This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

Civco Engineering in Vernal is in a very enviable position. The company specializes in transportation engineering, and the need for this type of work is at an all-time high in Utah. Civco president Troy Ostler explained how the company does all types of engineering but mostly concentrates on roads, bridges and airports. During my visit, the company had projects all over the state, from Rich County in the north all the way to Moab in the south.

Transportation infrastructure upgrades and new construction are needed all over the state, and transportation is critical to the economic vitality of any community.

Civco is a full-service engineering firm. The company does project engineering, project management and inspection. Civco has a reputation for great expertise, a dedication to excellence and a commitment to complete satisfaction on every project.

In 1989, Troy was employed at another engineering company. In 2000, he decided to become a business owner and start Civco Engineering. At that time, there was only one employee — Troy.

Today, the company has 25 employees and five engineers, each with different clients and projects. Troy's wife, Nancy, is an integral part of the organization as the office manager. Their son Todd is also in the business, working with a survey crew.

Troy tells me the company is doing a great deal of work for the federal government and the Utah Department of Transportation.

He explained that there is a shortage of engineers in Utah and the company is sometimes limited by an abundance of work and a shortage of qualified engineers.

Troy loves his work and emphasized to me how happy he is to be able to be productive in a profession he loves and to live in Vernal.

For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
